Feeling Body Investigation (FBI)

FBI is a playful approach to interoceptive exposure designed specifically for ARFID. Children with ARFID often experience intense anxiety or disgust triggered by normal physical sensations leading to severe food restriction.

What is FBI?

Developed by Dr. Nancy Zucker, Feeling Body Investigation (FBI) was created as a specialized interoceptive exposure component within family-based and cognitive-behavioral treatments for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

FBI helps children safely explore and reframe uncomfortable bodily sensations by turning physical feelings associated with eating into curious "investigations," empowering them to overcome food-related fear, disgust, and somatic avoidance.

Who is FBI for?

  • Children who have anxiety about vomiting, choking, nausea, or stomach pain when eating.

  • Children with Intense distress about physical feelings of digestion.

  • Children with disgust reactivity

  • Children with nutritional restriction
